College Note Taking

Meet Dr. Byron Augustin, experience a unique college lecture and learn how to sharpen your note taking skills before the first class day. “Doc”, an ever popular presenter for this program and a Geography Department professor, and the Student Learning Assistance Center (SLAC) team up to bring you skills and tips that help build a strong academic lifeline.

Diversity Experience

The newly founded Hip Hop Congress will take the stage to show you what diversity is all about from gender issues to disability issues to religious discrimination. This group is sure to please and you won’t help but be moved by their performance. Just sit back and enjoy their rendition of diversity in today’s world.

Lunch

Spend some time getting to know your fellow Bobcats, some of the PAWS Preview staff and sample a little of what the Student Center Lair has to offer.

Alcohol 101

Welcome to Alcohol 101…a virtual college campus where you make the decisions and choices and discover what happens in People-Plus-Alcohol environments. Wrong choices as well as responsible choices and their consequences are explored in a highly interactive environment. You’ll learn a lot about how to take care of yourself and your friends.

Alkek Library Orientation

The Alkek Library is as large as seven football fields stacked on top of each other. The orientation will teach you how to navigate the miles of books and yards of magazines. You’ll learn about the many other services available, including the computer lab, recording studios, SLAC and much more.

Computers...Time to Get On Line!

All Texas State students have access to the campus computer resources, including an e-mail account, and access to the internet. Much of your communication, research, information and creativity will be connected to computers on campus. You must have a university account for important items such as Library materials checkout, registration, and much more.

 

Faculty Panel

Get ready to be more successful in your classes! Meet some of Texas State’s professors and ask them all the questions to which you have been dying to know the answers. Find out from the professionals how to succeed in class including: what professors expect from students, what really happens if you don’t go to class or finish your homework, and much more.

Convocation

Convocation welcomes all new students to Texas State University-San Marcos the Saturday before classes begin.  It is the kick-off for the new school year.  This is the only time the entire freshman class will be at one place together. Students will be greeted by faculty, staff, and current students as well as members of the San Marcos community. All students in PAWS Preview MUST ATTEND Convocation!
